Biography
Doug has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1990, making him one of 1600 attorneys in the United States to be recognized by both judges and other attorneys as a preeminent family law practitioner for his high level of knowledge, skill and integrity. He has been repeatedly selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and in Indiana Super Lawyers since 2007 in the field of Family Law and is a Family Law Mediator in the state of Indiana.
Doug has been and continues to be a presenter and chairman of numerous continuing legal education seminars in the area of family law, and is recognized by both judges and other lawyers for his leadership in improving the quality of legal services which are provided to families in Northwest Indiana.
Range of Experience:
Trial experience includes:
- Serving as lead counsel for initial intake to judgement in numerous jury and bench trials, including predominantly contested family law cases;
- Expert testimony on substantive areas of family law;
- Retained by other attorneys to prepare qualified domestic relations orders and on family law related issues in bankruptcy court;
- Consultation with other attorneys in family law cases at both state and federal trial and appellate levels;
- Prosecution and defense of appellate proceedings, including oral argument before the Indiana Supreme Court;
- Former Court Coordinator and Temporary Judge Lake Circuit Court conducting pre-trial conferences, developing and implementing case-flow management and docket control systems, developing and implementing modifications to local practices to satisfy requirements of federally and state mandated operational guidelines and record keeping systems;
- Former public defender Gary City and Lake County Courts' and, former Assistant Lake County Attorney.
